recital woes

All American music.

Themed about children, and childhood - voices of children? Ancient Voices of Children could work, if only I had the time and the perfect pitch and bravado to do it. But it wouldn't really fit the flavor.

Will look at the Laitman (I Never Saw Another Butterfly) this week - hopefully it will suit.

I'm thinking that I'll end up with four major sections:

Chanler - The Children
Laitman - I Never Saw Another Butterfly
Barber - Knoxville

and then either: a group of Emily Dickinson songs, a group of various lighthearted and/or whimsical songs (the one about the penguins and the south pole springs to mind) by various American composers, or another cycle / set of songs (need to look at My Antonia, though that much Larsen will be a bit of a challenge on top of the Barber).

I definitely want to do that Ricky Ian Gordon setting of Dickinson that's the letter from the fly. I *could* come up with a set of R.I. that's all naive / dreamy / whimsical...
