Theory placement test... sucked.
Dictation: a sixteen-chord piece in four-part harmony. Take down soprano and bass, give figured bass and Roman numeral analysis.
And it *modulated* and there were secondary dominants and crap. I got *most* of the soprano and (I think) all of the bass. and the very beginning and end of everything else, where it was easy. Oh, and I forgot the best part. They played the example 5 times. That's right.
FIVE TIMES.
Part ii was to harmonize a figured bass. Again, with sophisticate harmony. :p
Did I mention FIVE TIMES? Four part harmony? CHROMATIC harmony?
Did I mention it's been roughly 18 years since I DID this shit? (Yes. I am hitting the point where I was in college when these college students were BORN. SCARY.)
The audition itself went quite well, though (OK by my standards, and they seemed to like me.) I sang three pieces for them, there was a little chat, and Daniel Washington asked me to stick around because I was next to last in the day's auditions. He came out to the lobby to scold me for not EMAILING him to telling him I was coming out to visit. :) I apologized. Lots. And listed him as one of the top three teachers I'd prefer to study with.
Whew. Now back to your previously scheduled MFA program, and working on recital rep, and trying to memorize the last stubborn bits of The Medium.
